Activate Accelerate Session 2
For the second Accelerate session, we had a discussion around the MotW and kept it short.
For the MotW, we discussed antifragility, a common mindset we bring up in TKS. Antifragility is where you are able to adapt and grow from your setbacks and mistakes, rather than be discouraged or negatively affected by them. For week 2’s Accelerate challenge, we had to intentionally put ourselves in situations where there was a big chance we’d fail. This could be anything, from trying a new skill, challenging yourself in your sport, or even a small thing like answering a question in class where you may be wrong. The idea is that the more you expose yourself to failure and actively try to learn from your mistakes, the better you’ll be at dealing with setbacks when they come unexpectedly and knowing how to move forward.
Antifragility teaches you that failure isn’t something to be looked down on, but rather something that should be welcomed and “strived” for. If you fail, you’ve learned something, and that means you're better prepared for next time. But when you put yourself in challenging situations constantly, you’re also increasing the chances that not only you’ll learn something new, but that you’ll also succeed.
That week, during my training, I asked to train with someone more experienced than me. Normally, I would avoid doing this because I didn’t want to feel like a “burden” or I was worried I wouldn’t do that well, but it was actually such a smart move because not only was I challenged during the session, but I also learned some new stuff that I could apply to my other sessions and competitions later. I’m always nervous at the beginning, but it always pays off after, and that’s something I need to keep reminding myself.
But that was mainly it for this Accelerate session. As I mentioned before, they are pretty discussion-oriented, so the blog posts for these will be much shorter. But, so far, Accelerate has been great, and I can’t wait to see all the other exciting stuff that will come from it soon!
